Luke 24:44-45

A. PURPOSE OF THE COURSE

“For the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy” so the Angel spoke to the disciple John on the Island of Patmos (Rev. 19:10). When Jesus spoke to His disciples about His second coming and the accompanying signs, He quoted from the prophet Daniel in Mt. 24:15, 16. Soon after His resurrection, on the way to Emmaus, Jesus looked at the disciples and said (probably) with a heaving sigh, “O foolish ones, and slow of heart to believe in all that the prophets have spoken!” and then beginning with Moses and the Prophets, He “expounded to them in all the Scriptures the things concerning Himself” (Lk. 24:13-27).

 

God’s greatest lamentation is this: “My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge” (Hos. 4:6). King Solomon echoes the same prophecy in a different way: “Where there is no vision (revelation), the people perish” (Prov. 29:18). God’s divine purpose is for us to read and comprehend the prophecies and revelations in the Bible that we may be prepared for His second coming and not be left behind!

 

With that divine purpose in mind, we at Emet, realized that the key to comprehend the prophecies and revelations lies in Luke 24:45 where Jesus, “opened their understanding” to the Scriptures! And emulating His example, with the help of the Holy Spirit, we open the understanding of the students to comprehend the depth of this revelation, that once enlightened by the Word, they might go out and prepare others for His second coming!
